Allocation of $2.5 billion to invest in U.S. power grid.
The Department of Energy issued a Request for Information (RFI) last week, asking for public feedback on how best to spend the $2.5 billion allocated to the Transmission Facilitation Program (TFP). This new program will invest in the upgrading of America’s power grids and power lines, which were not created with current energy needs in mind. Power outages were at their highest ever in 2020, with consumers on average experiencing eight hours annually without power.
“With nearly 70% of the nation’s grid more than 25 years old, the President’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a pivotal catalyst for transmission projects across the nation that will deliver good-paying jobs in the process.” said Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.
